IJM Construction named Builder of the Year at MCIEA 2026

02 November 2026 IJM Group

IJM Construction Sdn Bhd, the construction arm of IJM Corporation Berhad, has been named Builder of the Year (Grade G7) at the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA) 2026, recognising its track record in delivering complex building and infrastructure projects. The award was presented at a ceremony held on 29 October 2026 at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Organised by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia, MCIEA recognises outstanding achievements across Malaysia’s construction industry and aims to encourage continuous improvement and the adoption of best practices in project delivery, innovation, safety and sustainability. The Builder of the Year award specifically honours Grade G7 contractors that demonstrate excellence in corporate leadership, technical capabilities, innovative project delivery and contributions to the wider construction industry.

The 2026 win adds to IJM Construction’s longstanding record at MCIEA, following previous Builder of the Year awards in 2001, 2002 and 2015, as well as Contractor of the Year awards in 2009 and 2012.

With more than four decades of experience, IJM Construction has developed a diverse portfolio spanning high-rise developments, highways, rail systems, tunnels, airports and healthcare facilities. Its continued investment in engineering expertise, digital construction and industrialised building methods has also supported its expansion into more technically demanding sectors.

Engineering excellence in practice

Three featured in the award submission demonstrate IJM Construction’s capabilities across different construction challenges, from innovative engineering solutions and project delivery to quality and safety performance.

  • TRX Residences, Kuala Lumpur: Delivered the superstructure for two residential towers comprising 896 homes. Advanced climbing systems, BIM-enabled clash detection and digital reporting supported construction coordination, quality and safety. The project recorded more than seven million safe man-hours, with LEED Gold and Green Building Index Gold certifications targeted.
  • UOB Tower 2, Kuala Lumpur: Used a top-down construction method to progress excavation and superstructure works concurrently on a dense urban site. Real-time monitoring, BIM coordination and off-site pre-assembly helped manage structural risks and improve site efficiency.
  • Menara HASiL Pulau Pinang: Completed the project nearly two months ahead of schedule, achieving a QLASSIC score of 86% and a customer satisfaction score of 97%.

Together, these projects reflect the importance of combining technical expertise, digital tools and disciplined execution to manage complexity while maintaining safety, quality and delivery standards.

Building capabilities for the next phase of growth

As Malaysia advances its National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), IJM Construction has expanded its portfolio into data centres, semiconductor and electrical and electronics (E&E) manufacturing facilities. These projects require close coordination across multiple engineering disciplines, specialised building systems and demanding delivery schedules.

In August 2026, the company secured RM909.5 million in semiconductor and medical technology projects, followed by a RM1.23 billion contract for a semiconductor manufacturing facility at Kulim Hi- Tech Park in October.

These projects build on IJM Construction’s experience in fast-track execution and its use of Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) and off-site fabrication where appropriate. These methods support greater productivity, quality and delivery certainty in increasingly complex construction environments.

Following the recent contract wins, IJM Construction’s outstanding order book stood at approximately RM10.6 billion, providing a strong pipeline of work across building construction, advanced industrial facilities and civil engineering.

Driven by the people behind every project

The Builder of the Year recognition celebrates the people whose expertise and teamwork make these achievements possible. From engineering and project management to technical specialists and site teams, their collective efforts underpin IJM Construction’s ability to take on new challenges.

As the industry evolves, IJM Construction remains focused on strengthening its engineering capabilities, embracing innovation and raising standards in safety, quality and project delivery.
