Working towards its
vision of becoming a global leader in the delivery of well-built
infrastructure and building projects, IJM began to look for niches
beyond the Malaysian shores.
During the mid 1980's, IJM Group
ventured into the international arena actively. By pooling its
resources and expertise and focusing on construction, construction
management, property development and infrastructure investment, IJM
has won and successfully completed projects in Australia, Argentina,
Bangladesh, China, Chile, Hong Kong, India, Myanmar, Mauritius,
Namibia, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
On the property

United States of America (USA) and Australia.

New development projects continue to expand in Sydney, Australia and
in India.
IJM has made its mark in several major international joint
venture projects involving construction and infrastructure
investments in Latin America, China, India and Vietnam.
In 1996, the
Group entered into an agreement with companies from Argentina,
Brazil and Mexico to participate in the
Western Access Tollway Project
in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The resulting joint-venture company
was granted a "Build, Operate and Transfer" concession for the
impressive 55km expressway from Buenos Aires to Lujan. The
joint-venture company, Grupo Concesionario del Oeste S.A is now
listed on the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange.
In China, IJM
acquired a significant stake in the Guangdong Provincial Expressway
Development Co. Ltd., which operates two expressways that form a
national trunk road plus a major bridge across the
Jiujiang River. The company is listed on the Shenzhen Stock
Exchange.
Another joint-venture company operates the concession rights for
toll collection, management, operation and maintenance of the
Yangzhong Changjiang Bridge for 25 years.
A third joint-venture
company which has successfully completed the construction and
operation of the Wuxi Nenda
Co-Generation Plant, Xishan City, Jiangsu Province,
was divested several years into operation.
In Vietnam,
the Group has a major stake in the first ever "Build, Operate and
Transfer" Binh An Water Supply scheme. The scheme now supplies over
100,000 cubic meters of potable water daily to Ho Chi Minh City.
In India, the
Group has made significant inroads into the construction of major
highways and is today one of the leading foreign road contractors
there. It has now ventured into "Build, Operate and Transfer" Toll
Roads which include the Swarna Tollway concession.

Success in its international ventures has led the Group to emerge as
a strong contender in the international arena in the construction
and construction-related industries. In recognition of
the Group's achievement, the Construction Industry Development Board
(CIDB) had honored IJM with the
Malaysian International Contractor of the Year 2000 award and
the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) conferred the
Industry Excellence Award 2003 - Export Excellence (Services) for
its contribution in exporting Malaysia's construction service.
IJM
has done the country proud by successfully responding to the
nation's call to venture beyond the Malaysian shores.
